In My Collection is a series where I take some pictures and talk about the physical media I own, try to remember how much I paid for it, the current value of the item and where and when I obtained the item. Physical media forever!

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

Publisher: Nintendo

Year of Release: 2013

System: Nintendo 3DS

Item Type: CiB

Price Paid: $50

Current Value (Pricecharting): $19.99

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds was a game I was very excited about back in 2013. There were only 3 “2D” Zelda games released prior to it since 2004: The excellent Minish Cap and the connected but flawed (in my opinion) Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks. As for 3D offerings, Twilight Princess released in 2006, and Skyward Sword released in 2011. On top of being excited about a new 2D outing for Link, the concepts and setting of Link Between Worlds was also very appealing. The game is set in a similar if not the same world of Hyrule from A Link to the Past. In addition, Link would be able to flatten himself, essentially becoming a painting in order to solve puzzles and navigate the world.

I scooped up the game pretty much on day 1. Late 2013 was the year of my daughter’s birth as well, and I can recall playing it in between changing diapers and feedings and losing sleep. I will always equate A Link Between Worlds with the amazing miracle of having a child.

The game appears to be extremely cheap nowadays, with complete in box copies going for just $20. If you have a Nintendo 3DS, you owe it to yourself to find this game and play it. For $20 especially, this is a great value.
